When it comes to sky travel, there are two primary options — helicopters or aeroplanes. While both have their benefits, it can be hard to decide which one is the best option for your travel.

Are you trying to determine which flight choice would be best for your next travels? We’ll help make the decision easier for you by breaking it down below. Read on to see which option would be best.

The speed

One of the most significant differences between planes and helicopter is the speed. Unsurprisingly, aeroplanes are a faster alternative to helicopters.

This is because planes offer a better aerodynamic structure than helicopters, thanks to their powerful engines.

Although helicopters are still considerably fast and versatile, planes are designed to sail through the sky at higher speeds. This is what makes planes the ideal option for long-distance travel.

While helicopters aren’t as fast, they still get short-term travel done in a considerably quick manner. This flight option is more flexible and can turn in any direction, making challenging air flights easier to manoeuvre.

Plus, take off via helicopter is a speedier process, cutting down on the overall duration. Aspects like this can make helicopter travel quicker despite the speed limitation, making aeroplane travel redundant for short distance situations.

Ultimately, your destination is the decider on which transport is best for you.

While a plane can be quicker, helicopters are most ideal for shorter travel purposes, like fast transfers or tours such as our scenic flights and services through Sydney.

The landing spots

The landing spots

When it comes to landing, helicopters are increasingly more flexible than an aeroplane. While both can land at an airport, planes are much more limited when it comes to finding a landing spot elsewhere.

Both modes of transport have a list of requirements for securing a landing spot; however, planes certainly take the cake for more requirements. For example, helicopters can land anywhere with stable ground and council approval, only needing at least 500 metres between them and a building or obstruction.

Meanwhile, aeroplanes need council approval plus a much larger landing area for metres of runway strip. This doesn’t just make it hard to find a suitable area for the plane to land but can also make it difficult for the plane to take off.

On top of this, planes require longer runways for landing. They are restricted to more terrain environments and require more assets when docking, such as windsocks and markers. This makes helicopters much more appealing.

In short, if you have limited space, a helicopter is your best alternative for landing.

The experience

Plane or helicopter — flying through the sky is always an experience many look forward to. However, both offer their own unique experiences to passengers.

For those looking for a laid-back luxury trip with plenty of space to get up and walk, planes are a great form of travel. Planes provide passengers with a relaxing long-term travel, complete with toilets and food services.

However, for a short-term trip with the best viewing experience, aeroplanes do not compare to what helicopters have to offer!

The experience

The ultimate choice for short-term travel, helicopters allow a more adventurous trip.

While planes offer a more spacious flying experience, only helicopter flights can deliver a more private, intimate ride perfect for when you want to get up close to a site.

With larger windows, helicopters are not as limited when it comes to offering a once-in-a-lifetime viewing of sceneries. You can get up closer and take a better inspection of your subject, whether it be a location or landmark.

Plus, it is more private due to it being a smaller aircraft, making it a truly memorable time for all involved.

The Christmas/New Year period is here and that means the holidays have just about arrived! After a year like 2020, you must treat yourself to a break that is full of fun and magic.

Whether you are holidaying in Sydney (now that the borders are open) or hosting family from interstate, a helicopter tour through the city can make your vacation unlike any other.

Soaring through the sky and taking in the iconic city is one of the best ways to explore Sydney. If you are going to do anything while in here, this should be the first thing on your list!

Not convinced? See how helicopters can make your holiday one you won’t forget.

Helicopter tours allow you to discover the city in a way unlike any other

The best thing about taking a helicopter tour on your holiday is that you’ll be able to witness the city as you’ve never seen before. Getting a bird’s eye view you will see Sydney from a whole new perspective.

With several scenic flights covering different parts of Sydney, you can go beyond the expected CBD and take in the rugged Blue Mountains or some of our many golden shorelines.

If you are in Sydney for a short time, we recommend taking a tour as one of your first activities early on in your trip.

The aerial perspective will also allow you to spot out locations and sus out the city before you hit it by foot. This is a great opportunity and a unique way to list other locations you want to explore next.

A helicopter flight provides you with a sense of adventure

A helicopter flight provides you with a sense of adventure

Unlike a walking tour, a helicopter flight gives you an experience to see high above – making it perfect for those who are up for an adventure.

The thrill of jumping in a small aircraft and speeding through the sky is an exhilarating feeling you can’t replicate. While you won’t be jumping out of the aircraft (from high above anyway), the buzz of being up in the air is enough to spark the interest of all.

And don’t forget the heights you go! By zipping across the sky, you’ll be able to see far and wide, idling higher than any building in the city. What a rush!

Plus, if you really want to treat yourself, you can go for one of our pub or lunch tours, travelling by helicopter to reach enchanting destinations.

Helicopter flights PLUS food and drinks? Now that is a holiday adventure you don’t want to miss out on!

A tour in a helicopter gives you a private insight while travelling in style

One of the best parts of a helicopter ride through Sydney is that it provides an exclusive tour just for you, the passengers.

In a luxuriously intimate setting, you can feel like a VIP, flying in your private helicopter with your very own pilot. Whether you have purchased a single tour or a longer day trip, you will feel like a celebrity during the entire time you are in our aircraft!

By having your own pilot, you will get to hear the pilot up and close. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions about what you see, giving you a better insight into the locations you explore.

Our pilots are professionally trained, knowing the city and their job like the back of their hand. As you pass by locations, you’ll be able to hear interesting information about the city, making it one of the best ways to get to know Sydney.

Ready to take your holiday to the next level with Alpine Helicopters? With many helicopter flights on offer, we can take you on a tour or for a day out!

To learn more, visit our website. To book a tour, be quick so you don’t miss out on your selected dates by booking online.

Flying through the sky is an exciting experience that can be enjoyed most when accompanied by those closest to you — family!

Often flying families around, we know how a helicopter ride through Sydney can be a great bonding experience for a family. Being able to share this experience with your partner, children or parents, is an incredible feeling that allows for a great memory everyone can cherish.

Are you planning on taking or gifting your family with a helicopter tour this holiday season? Find out everything you need to know below.

Who can take a helicopter ride?

Good news for the whole family — anyone who is ‘fit to fly’ may take to the sky! This means all age groups are welcome.

If you wanted to take the children or your grandparents on a helicopter tour with you, then have no fear, they can fly too!

With your permission, your child can join you in the sky. Depending on the circumstances, two children between the ages of three to 12 years may occupy a single seat.

Infants under the age of three years can also fly. Welcomed free of charge, infants must be seated on an adult’s lap during the flight’s duration.

Who can take a helicopter ride?

What is classified as ‘fit to fly’?

At Alpine Helicopters, the safety of our passengers is our biggest priority. This is not only carried through our practices and procedures, but also enforced by our ‘fit to fly’ guideline.

When we say, ‘fit to fly’, we mean as long as it is safe for you to take the aerial tour, you can join in on the fun.

Certain medical conditions and health implications may stop you from flying. If you are pregnant and experiencing complications, this may also mean you might have to sit out on a helicopter ride this time around.

Not sure if you are in shape to fly? We recommend seeing your health professional and checking whether you have clearance to go on a helicopter.

For further questions on whether you can fly with us, call our friendly team on (02) 9637 4455.

Our helicopters that cater to family groups

How big is your family? At Alpine Helicopters, we often fly group transfers in and around Sydney, so hosting a large group is no trouble.

With eight helicopters in our fleet ranging in size, you can trust we will have a helicopter that can cater to your family’s needs. We have varying layouts that allow us to service your member requirements, giving you several options to fit your needs.

Our helicopters that cater to family groups

For a more intimate family of 4 or less, we guarantee that you’ll find a helicopter to fit with our team. Our smallest aircraft, the B206B2, can accommodate up to 4 passengers.

For the more extensive family featuring 5 or 6 members, we have several of our AS350FX2 in our fleet. This allows us to fly you and your mid-sized family around with ease.

Furthermore, we can cater to the largest of families. Seating up to 14 passengers PLUS the pilot, we can fit an extended family in one single helicopter when flying our Bell 412.

Do you need to fly more than 14 passengers? No worries, if you want to have a day out with your large extended family, Alpine Helicopters can help.

By using several of our fleets, we can cater to large family groups, delivering all members an exceptional flying experience.

Helicopter tour gift ideas that are suited for a family with kids

Are you interested in booking a trip for the family, including the kids? Or perhaps you want to provide a voucher to your nieces and nephews this Christmas?

Then have no stress! Alpine Helicopters offers plenty of tours for the family! From our scenic flights through Sydney to our lunch tours across town, we have something for everyone.

If you are after a tour fit for younger kids, we recommend one of our scenic flights.

There are three of our tours that are perfect for a surprise. These include flying over the iconic Sydney Harbour landmarks and the Blue Mountains or Northern Beaches.

As Alpine’s longest-running commercial helicopter operator, it is safe to say we have a thorough understanding of flying helicopters.

Founded in 1985, we have provided satisfied customers with countless tours across the city.

During this time, we have been able to grasp a good understanding of what weather is ideal for helicopter flights and what isn’t.

Besides the matter of safety, we know which conditions hold the best views and what conditions are best to stay grounded in.

To understand the different weather conditions we take flight in and why we won’t in others, keep reading below.

The ideal weather for helicopter tours

sydheli2

When it comes to a helicopter ride through Alpine, our most ideal weather is a clear sunny day. With the sun shining and clear sky above the city, you’ll be able to get the best vision possible.

However, in saying that, having a few clouds isn’t too bad either. We understand that in our city, not every day comes with perfect weather conditions. A nice blue sky with some clouds can still provide a great view for sightseeing. As we fly considerably low, light clouds have less of a chance of impacting our tours.

As for overcast weather, this can still allow visibility if the clouds remain high with no rain. You’ll be able to enjoy the iconic sights the city has to offer even with a slightly dimmed sky. In fact, your trip may even be enhanced with these conditions resulting in little glare through the windows!

Plus, a minor overcast day after heavy rainfall can give you a better opportunity of spotting waterfalls during your flight!

One thing we have learnt over time is, just because the sun isn’t on full blast doesn’t mean you can’t look forward to your flight!

To try your best chances at flying, spring and summer usually offer prime flying conditions. However, autumn and winter can also provide stunning views!

How weather affects our helicopter flights

sydheli3

At Alpine Helicopters, your safety is our priority. We take weather conditions seriously and assess the upcoming conditions before we go ahead with our helicopter flights.

When assessing if it’s safe for a flight to proceed, we analyse the wind speed, visibility and cloud height among other factors.

Unfortunately, the weather is beyond our control so there are times we will have to reschedule flights. Not only do we not want you in danger, but we don’t want to put you in the position of a trip you won’t enjoy as well.

Weather conditions such as storms, high winds, hail and heavy rainfall as well as fog and low clouds are generally the circumstances we won’t fly in.

If we deem your flight unsafe, we will contact you at the earliest time possible to reschedule at an available time that is convenient for you.

In the case of a rescheduled flight if you are visiting Alpine, we recommend you book your flight earlier in your stay so we can try to move it to a day you are still in the city.

Weather and helicopters in general

When it comes to helicopters, the weather can be complicated. Where some conditions may be considered okay for helicopters to fly in performance-wise, it may not be safe for a pilot to fly due to compromised visibility.

Just because our helicopters may be durable enough to survive harsh conditions, doesn’t mean a flight should go ahead. Fog, for example, doesn’t impact the performance of a helicopter but does make the pilot’s flight path difficult. This can be misleading as it blankets obstructions, creating a danger for all involved.

sydheli4

At Alpine Helicopters, we have particular requirements for our flights that other helicopter operations may override.

Since we provide charters and tours, we make sure we only schedule flights with the safest of conditions.

Other services such as emergency flights may be considered for an exception even during risky and/or unsafe weather conditions due to the nature of their requirements.

When booking with Alpine Helicopters, you can have peace of mind knowing our team will only ever take to the sky in weather that we can guarantee your safety in. If the day isn’t right, we’ll simply reschedule so you can still witness the glory of the city from the sky.

To find the perfect trip for you, whether it be a scenic tour or lunch flight, explore our website today or call us on (02) 9637 4455 for enquiries!

Helicopters – the perfect mode of transportation when you have to get in the air but need to land in tighter areas.

The best thing about transporting through helicopters is that you get a breathtaking view from the sky, while avoiding the restrictions of roads and getting there in a quicker amount of time. There’s also that added benefit where you can land and reach spots an aeroplane could not.

Its flexibility deems helicopter transfers for major events that much more appealing than a car ride.

However, while you can land it in a lot more areas than you could a plane, there are certain restrictions when landing a helicopter.

As professional pilots with years of experience in helicopter flights in and out of Sydney, we know where you can and cannot land. If you are planning a helicopter excursion or transfer, it’s best to know if your destination is a safe helicopter landing site.

Keep reading below to see if a landing at your destination is possible.

What makes land unsafe for a helicopter landing

While helicopters are known to be able to practically land in most environments, there is some restriction that can prevent you from landing just anywhere.

Firstly, not having permission is one of the most significant issues. To land a helicopter, whether it be private or public land, we need to approval from the rightful landowners.

Permission should be sorted out in advance as some landowners may require or want insurance coverage for their property.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Sydney Helicopters (@sydneyhelicopters) on

Secondly, the area and environment can have an impact on whether the destination is safe to land. When establishing a landing area, there must be a large enough area for the helicopter that has a suitable radius clear from obstructions.

One of the major safety issues is that a temporary helipad needs a clear distance away from buildings.

So generally, a large area of grass or paddock that is 500 metres away from a building makes a suitable landing spot. This distance rule is put in place to maintain the safety of buildings and individuals.

Time restrictions should also be considered to minimise any noise issues in the local area. Contact us to discuss your arrival and returning times so we can see if your request is possible.

Landing helicopters on public land

Landing in public areas such as parklands or council grounds can be done, as long as we have the permission of the rightful council. This is because the council must be aware for safety reasons and other uses.

It is also critical to secure council approval to ensure that the land is not booked for other events or purposes.

To obtain council permission, contact your council and potentially submit an application. Requirements can vary depending on the council.

As an alternative, we can also land at nearby existing helipads (on approval). For any questions on whether we can land in a public area for you, give us a call on (02) 9637 4455.

Landing a helicopter on private properties

sh2

When it comes to private properties, landing a helicopter can be an easy process. With similar requirements, including the right size, clear space and landowner permission, we can land our helicopters.

Whether you want to be picked up from home or are taking a trip to a privately-owned vineyard, as long as the landing area fits the requirements, you should be fine to go.

With many scenic flights and tours available in Sydney, we have pre-approved landing areas for many of our tour destinations, making your trip to these venues much more streamlined.

For any questions on where you can land, feel free to contact our team through our website or by calling on (02) 9637 4455.

Offering private transfers, including event transport, and day trips, Alpine Helicopters is the helicopter company with experience you require for your next flight in the sky.

With the current global environment and travel restrictions in place, the idea of going on a holiday may seem out of reach. But just because you can’t go too far from your hometown doesn’t mean you can’t have a holiday!

Instead of pining for a faraway destination, we encourage you to look into locations nearby within your state.

In Sydney, we are lucky to be in an area that is conveniently in the middle of a variety of regions. With several opportunities surrounding the city, holidaying from here is still possible.

Not prepared to travel by car and longing for a trip in the sky? If you still want to get that luxury feel, opt for our helicopter charter flights to and from, so you can get that holiday vibe without skipping the air travel!

It’s a win-win — all you need to do is find a destination and ensure we can get you there!

To choose where you are going for your next getaway, have a look below.

Blue Mountains

Looking to go somewhere for the September-October school holidays? If you have nothing planned, the Blue Mountains is calling your name.

As these holidays occur during spring, the mild, not-too-hot and not-too-cold temperature makes this the ultimate destination.

Whether you are a couple or a family-unit, the Blue Mountains has plenty to offer for those looking to have a getaway. From iconic landmarks such as the Three Sisters and Jenolan Caves to the endless rugged bushland filled with walking tracks, waterfalls and lookouts, there is always something to do.

The accommodation is also high-class. From quirky small inns and farm stays to luxurious lodging, there are plenty of options for you to pick from.

Furthermore, the area is filled with a variety of venues and adventurous activities. As featured in our Blue Mountains Pub Tours, there are lots of historical pubs still standing that offer the original rustic atmosphere and good beverages.

Plus, this region is also home to a wide selection of gourmet goods to taste and bring back, including sweets, jams and cheeses. There are also many abseiling, horse riding and 4WD driving opportunities for thrill chasers!

Central Coast

Thinking ahead to the new year’s holiday period? The Central Coast can never go astray! With miles of gorgeous beaches guarding the shorelines, it is a classic summer holiday destination you shouldn’t look past.

Central Coast

A short 20-minute helicopter trip can take you to a whole new vista, away from the area you call home.

With one of our bases located in Erina, you’ll be dropped off to the foot of the region, where you can catch a transfer and start your holiday.

From the more secluded golden shores of MacMasters Beach to the lively area of The Entrance, there is a beach that will suit the holiday you desire. From swimming to kayaking or fishing, these beaches have plenty to offer.

Not to mention, you won’t have any trouble with dining. With ice cream stores and restaurants holding a strong presence along all beaches, there will be something for everyone — including the good ol’ fish and chips shop that no beach holiday is complete without!

Who says you have to leave the country for a tropical getaway?

Hunter Valley

Looking for a group trip? Whether it is a weekend or a week away, the Hunter Valley region is both a relaxing and exciting destination.

Filled with countless wineries and breweries, there are plenty of taste-testing experiences on offer across the Hunter Valley region. To match the diverse range of beverages, there are also several gourmet food-tasting menus and cooking classes for foodies to get lost in.

Are you finished with the bottomless drinking activities? Relax and spend some time at a local spa or wander the luscious Hunter Valley Gardens. At Christmas, there is an annual light show held in the garden that is absolutely breathtaking to view.

Whether it’s winter or summer, the Hunter Valley is always ready for your arrival.

Hunter Valley

Have limited time? If you are looking for a short but sweet trip, make it a quick one-day escape!

With our Hunter Escape lunch flight, you can drop in and fly back out within a day. In over a six-hour trip, you will get one of the best scenic flights through Sydney plus a tasteful three-course meal accompanied by wines and beers.

South Coast and Southern Highlands

No matter the season, the south of Sydney provides a lovely experience regardless of the temperature. A good mix of the aspects found in the Central Coast and Hunter Valley, the southern areas of NSW is a magical part of the state that has plenty to offer.

If you are looking for a more inland holiday, the Southern Highlands will be a good choice.

Not only is it filled with picturesque gardens and valleys, but there are also plenty of hidden gems to find. Being the home of many national parks, there are numerous walking tracks and waterfalls to discover.

Plus, there are wineries located throughout the region where visitors can come to sip and explore. Not to mention the timeless and vintage accommodation options on offer. As a zippy 35-minute flight away, we can get you to the quaint location in no time.

Prefer the coast? Let us take you on a shorter flight to Wollongong in the South Coast. Featuring an enjoyable and scenic flight trip, the South Coast is home to many gorgeous beaches that you can wander around.

Helicopter’s logo has been a common character in the Alpine sky for decades now.

Do you think you have seen our helicopters before? You may just have! Our helicopters have been out and about for many different reasons and instances. Used for other purposes that go beyond your standard scenic flights through Alpine, you’ll be surprised to discover where you might have seen us before.

To jog your memory, keep reading below to see where you may recognise us from.

Assisting in emergencies

Bushfires are a common problem in Australia. These pop-up each year due to the hot sun and dry weather conditions.

What many of you may have seen on our website or through our social media is that every year, we assist NSW and ACT Fire Agencies in battling bushfires across the state. On occasion, when required, we even venture out further to lend our services interstate.

With a fleet that is well equipped, we are proud to provide extra support and services in combating fires. By taking an aerial approach, helicopters can be a valued weapon of defence in these situations, making it somewhat easier to tackle from above.

Amongst fires, we also participate in assisting with other emergency relief operations, including flood and rescue missions. Due to our experienced crew and tried equipment, we have been known to lend our helicopters to the NSW State Emergency Services (SES) and other well-known organisations.

Our aircraft are of great use – being utilised for recovering wrecks, evacuation, community resupply and for the deployment of personnel and equipment. From seeing us on the scene first-hand to spotting us in news footages, this may very well be why our name and logo looks familiar.

Participating in big events

Are you a fan of significant events such as the Bathurst 1000 or Vivid? Then this may be where you remember us from! Not only do we provide charters for special events, but our services are often hired for these, too!

For example, while we often provide group charters to and from the Bathurst 1000, we have also had our own promo crew for the event hanging around there and at other related promotional events.

From having our team flaunt around the main event itself to other V8 Supercar events, our promotional crew may have interacted with you at some point.

Other events you may have seen us hanging around include the annual Alpine New Year’s Eve Firework celebration in the harbour, the Alpine to Hobart yacht race and the Vivid Light Festival.

Whether we are taking tours on our helicopter flights or using our aircraft for professional photography, we are often spotted floating around and above these exciting events!

Over the years, our fleet has also been making drop-offs to other functions. This includes weddings and the races. From helping a bride make her breathtaking arrival on her big day to dropping off Santa to the races at Rosehill Gardens, you may have seen us more often than you thought!

On your TV screen

Offering professional aerial filming and photography, it is not unusual for our company to be linked to the media. However, while we are usually working behind the camera, there have been several instances where our helicopters have been found in the spotlight.

One of our memorable sightings was for Season 5 of The Voice Australia. Not only were we involved in the opening of the season, but we were also given the pleasure of helping the judges make their grand entrance by transporting them to the Alpine Cricket Ground.

Amongst this, we have also had the privilege of assisting in many productions behind the scenes. We have been acknowledged in the credits of a variety of media on commercials and blockbuster movies. Heck, we have even been behind the camera of many videos you’ve watched in the evening news!

Another memorable production we were involved in includes the time we provided on-location filming of Blake Lively in The Shallows.

We have also proudly been involved in many other projects, including Peter Rabbit, My Kitchen Rules and the Real Housewives of Melbourne.

Working on projects

Other times you may have seen us around is during certain building and construction projects. That is right — helicopters can be used in construction projects or for other lifting purposes!

Helicopters can be a great asset in lifting heavy items and transporting them to hard-to-reach places. They are just overall great for doing those hard jobs. The use of machinery on land is limited, especially in situations where it can be hard to find stable ground.

With our heli-lift crane services, working on projects with sites that are overhanging or on top of the water is made possible.

We might look familiar if you have driven past or been involved in a job we have assisted in. Hovering over in the air, it would not be unusual for you to notice the random helicopter sitting around and lifting pallets a few buildings down.

From helping out on a Bunnings Warehouse to transporting a fallen tree from a Alpine Harbour property, it can be hard to miss a helicopter with a dangling item no matter where you are in Alpine!

Have you recognised us from any of the above? If not, now you know not to be surprised if you see us flying around at a big event, fighting fires on the news or in the credits of a big production.

As a long-running company, our team at Alpine Helicopters is known for being well-established and reliable, making us a favourite for many helicopter services.

Are you looking to hire our services? Or are you interested in booking a tour now you know what we have been involved in? No matter what you need, we invite you to get in touch with our friendly team.

For bookings and more, send us an enquiry through our website or give us a call on (02) 9637 4455 for quick contact today.

Are you planning an extravagant event?

Whether you’re in a pinch and need to get somewhere far in a short amount of time or want to feel like a celebrity, travelling by helicopter is a far better alternative to a car. Not only is it a more glamorous option, but it also has numerous perks that outweigh travelling by car.

Trying to toss-up whether you want to invest in a fancy car or a helicopter transfer? If you need further convincing, we make the task easier for you by weighing up the essential things to consider when picking between the two.

Timing

When it comes to driving somewhere in a car, the trip can be a killer. Most of the time, you just want to get to your destination and go back home. To make it even worse, sometimes, the drive can take longer than the time you’ll be spending at the place once you arrive!

However, when you are travelling by helicopter, the story is much different.

A helicopter is naturally much faster due to its ability to cover more distance within a shorter time. Not to mention, in a helicopter, you will fly over through the sky and avoid terrain, not working around roads. This cuts the time even shorter.

Helicopter-travel

Without a doubt, helicopter flights are a way faster alternative, especially in a city like Sydney. In fact, helicopters are nearly 2-3 times faster.

What could be a one-hour trip by car can be made in less than half the amount of time by helicopter. It’s very convenient for situations where you want to be somewhere far away in a short amount of time like a wedding or special event.

To put it into perspective, majority of our helicopters have a cruise speed of 230 km/h, with the lowest rate being 170km/h. This is far faster than the highest NSW car speed limit of 110km/h. This means your two and a bit hour drive by car from Sydney to the Hunter Valley is done in 45 minutes by a helicopter.

Shorter travel time with a view? Sounds like a win to us!

External contributing factors

As mentioned above, helicopters can cut a lot of the time down by flying over land instead of following roads. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have their fair share of obstacles!

When flying in helicopters, there are many things pilots and companies need to be mindful of when setting up and planning a trip.

A big thing to consider is landing space. More flexible than planes, helicopters can land in more places. However, they aren’t just like cars that can go anywhere – the company will need approval and clearance beforehand to make sure it is safe.

Air traffic is also a contributing factor as a pilot will need to avoid interrupting or colliding with another existing flight path. They also need to consider the time and region to make sure they are abiding by air rules concerning speed, altitude and noise. This is also on top of the weather and general head and tailwinds, which can alter the flight time.

But obviously, cars still have a lot more issues when it comes to getting you to your destination on time. Not only will you experience heavy traffic (which can be far worse than air traffic!), but there are other issues that contribute to your travels as well.

Heavy-traffic

For example, road works and closures can create a major hassle for those needing to get somewhere on time. Accidents and other problems on the roads can also cause significant delays.

Furthermore, there are also traffic lights and signs in general, making cars a much more stop-and-go experience.

It’s easy to see that both forms of transport experience difficulties and challenges that can affect the overall travel time. But at the end of the day, helicopters still prove to provide a more seamless trip.

The experience

A major perk when you fly by helicopter is the experience and view. While it may be nice to drive a car through a scenic region, nothing will beat the view from a helicopter!

A helicopter ride through Sydney is unlike any other. Being a scenic city, we have so many notable locations to witness. Whether you are merely taking a charter flight or you’re in the middle of a tour, you will be treated to the mesmerising views no matter what!

From passing the iconic landmarks and the glorious shores of the Northern Beaches through to the mystic valleys of the Blue Mountains, all parts of Sydney are worth marvelling at. Plus, when the lights get switched on in the iconic harbour and CBD, the city seems like a whole new location!

Sydney-aerial-view

While cars can sit on ground level in traffic, bumper-to-bumper, you can zoom past, taunting the lines of cars below. Instead of sitting still on fume-filled roads, you will be relaxing high up in the sky. Plus, you’ll be getting to your location much quicker!

Not to mention, helicopters are far more flexible in route options. While cars have minimal routes to travel by road—sometimes only having a one-road option—helicopters have a vast sky to fly through. And detours can be made to go past locations on the way through, all the while still getting there faster than you would by car!

Oh, and you can’t forget a helicopter is far more comfortable than a car! With more room to breathe, big full windows and comfortable seating, a car doesn’t even start to compare. You also get a knowledgeable and experienced commentator for a pilot to make your trip far more entertaining!

Now you’ve had an overview and have seen the comparison on car vs helicopter travel, it is time to make your pick!

Want to book a helicopter charter? You’ve made a practical yet enjoyable choice! Give us a call on (02) 9637 4455.

If you want to go one step further, treat you and your loved ones to one of our breathtaking scenic flights through Sydney. Instead of flying to a destination, take some time to tour and enjoy the magical landscapes of the city.

At the moment, we are all going through unprecedented times with the COVID-19 situation happening worldwide. With all the restrictions enforced to stop the spread of the virus, our team here at Alpine Helicopters have introduced and maintained specific restrictions to ensure we are following the guidelines brought in by the Government.

With the health and safety of our customers and team in the forefront of ours minds, we would like to reassure you we are doing what we can to provide only the strictest of operations during this time. To find out how we are adapting to this situation, keep reading below.

Adjusting services

To match our priorities, we have temporarily ceased short tourism sightseeing flights as a precaution. Instead, we are currently focusing on offering our helicopters as private transport to regional NSW.

With strict lockdown laws and heavier police control, it can be harder to reach regional locations in NSW. This is where we have come in to help. To ensure individuals, including essential workers, can reach their homes or workplaces, we are offering our services as a private alternative. This way, we can commit to being a transport aid and help the community where it is needed.

Due to the nature of helicopter flights involving small numbers, we can deliver this service due to the minimal interaction needed. Furthermore, a helicopter flight is quicker than other modes of transport such as a car, making it a much shorter duration.

If you need a quicker and more accessible way of reaching regional NSW, please do not hesitate to contact us for a quote.

Cleaning procedures

At Alpine Helicopters, we consider strict cleaning extremely important as a standard practice. During this time, we are continuing to enforce these procedures. This includes keeping our aircraft and facilities to the highest standard of cleanliness with our regular and efficient processes.

As a part of our strict hygiene protocols, please know we are wearing PPE and sanitising equipment and surfaces in between customers and staff, delivering a safe environment for all concerned.

Further precautions

As we continue to monitor the situation, we are committed to following the laws and advice provided by the Government and health officials. With each update, we will change our procedures as required, reflecting any change of operation on our website.

It is also important to note that we can ensure that the services we do provide during this time are suited as the nature of helicopter flights involve small groups as it is. Furthermore, there is minimal need for interaction with people, making it a safe form of transportation.

With these times being uncertain, if you do book with us and contract COVID-19, can cancel your helicopter service. Should you find yourself in this situation, we will refund your booking 100%.

We hope that this clarifies any enquiries you may have during these times. For further information, please contact us on (02) 9637 4455. Also, if you do find yourself needing a private transfer to regional NSW, please contact us for a quote today.

From our team at Alpine Helicopters, we wish you the best of health. We cannot wait to pull through and get back in the air with you all on the other end. Until then, stay safe.

Yours sincerely, Alpine Helicopters.
