Our Company

Our parent company Sydney Helicopters Group was founded in 1985 and after operating in the Snowy Mountains region for over a decade, our Alpine base opened in 2020.

We own and operate a fleet of modern helicopters capable of catering for all your needs – whether it is a scenic flight, lunch tour or airwork we’ve got you covered.

Our staff are our biggest asset! We have permanent staff engaged in flying, maintenance and administrative roles. Key staff are listed below:

Mark Harrold

Mark Harrold

(Chief Pilot)

Mark is the Owner and Chief Pilot of Alpine Helicopters and Sydney Helicopters Group.  Mark gained his licence in 2002 and is endorsed to fly 10 models of helicopters including multi-engine. Mark has accumulated many thousands of hours conducting airwork activities including feature films, aerial firefighting and external lift work.

Peter Blackburn

Peter Blackburn

(Senior Line Pilot)

Peter has been with Sydney Helicopters Group after obtaining his Commercial Helicopter Licence in 2008. He has gained a vast amount of experience with VIP/Corporate transfers as well as airwork activities such as photography, film, gas and powerline inspections and various aspects of aerial firefighting work.

James Williams

James Williams

(Senior Line Pilot)

James joined Sydney Helicopters Group in 2013 and has gained a vast amount of experience on a range of missions including charter and air work such as photography, film, powerline inspection, and various aspects of aerial firefighting. He has experience working in remote parts of Australia including WA and the Kimberley.

Peter Potroz

Peter Potroz

(Senior Line Pilot)

Peter started flying in 1987, flying all over the world and has amassed vast experience in both VFR and IFR, particularly in the Airwork category of flying. His experience includes aerial firefighting, EMS, floods & emergency relief, lifting, AG and pest control.

Adam Schofield

Adam Schofield

(Operations Manager / Chief Crewman)

Adam has been with Sydney Helicopters Group since 2017 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in aircraft operations. Adam has been a crewman since 1991 and has worked for the NSW Police Airwing and has a vast amount of experience in winching, rappelling, search and rescue, and firefighting operations.

Shane Davidge

Shane joined the company during the 2019/2020 bushfire season and brings a wealth of experience to the business. Shane has flown throughout Australia conducting a range of flying activities including general survey, aerial shooting, gravity survey, firefighting operations and charter.

Sam Stewart

Sam Stewart

(Line Pilot)

Sam began his flying career in 2013, gaining airwork and charter experience in the New Zealand backcountry. He has expanded his experience in firefighting, survey and other utility work throughout Canada and Australia before joining Sydney Helicopters in 2023.

Max McAllister

Max McAllister

(Pilot)

Max obtained a commercial license in 2018, spending the first five years of a flying career mustering in the remote Kimberley region of WA before transitioning into the airwork industry in 2023.  Max has gained valuable experience in flying within the mining sector and in aerial firefighting.

Jessica Samson

Jessica joined Sydney Helicopters Group in 2019 and managers the day to day accounts and customer relations aspects of the business.

Samara Tanton

Samara joined Alpine Helicopters in 2020, bringing extensive experience in helicopter tourism, operations and customer service from the Victorian Alps. She plays a key role in supporting the Alpine Helicopters team and delivering exceptional customer experiences.

Roger Matthysen

Roger Matthysen

(Engineer)

Roger has over 30 years experience working on helicopters around the world. He is particularly experienced with Bell medium aircraft having worked on Bell 212 and 412 in Papua New Guinea and throughout the Pacific region.
